The models for characters are also well animated for the block style, this isn’t a Minecraft alpha character running with limbs swinging around but instead a well weighted and realistic characters that has to move body parts to get things to happen, including the bigger beasts that feel slow and cumbersome as they put a lot of weight on each step. To this end the games graphics could even be called the most optimal choice and due the cute childlike nature of the graphics the game in some ways actually comes off as more relaxing versus what could otherwise be a gritty survival game in which characters can just flat out die. The settings available are far beyond what is seen across most indie games these days which is quite a welcome design choice, with a high level of graphic changes available to help with performance (which can be problem), a fully keyboard to rebind, changeable gameplay settings once again primarily to increase performance and finally passible audio settings since that Stonehearth’s strongest department.Īlthough in terms of accessibility the game could be called lacking at best, the language tab wouldn’t even work for me and there are no options for changing the colours to help with those suffering from any kind of colour-blindness which may not affect the core mechanics of the game but certain ways of designing are flat out impossible due to the colours mainly being set already or not featuring the exact colour name.Īs with many games in the indie genre, graphics are not the main priority but instead the style of the graphics as this is not meant to be a realistic looking game but instead a stylised version focusing on the core gameplay mechanics and optimising them despite the amount that may be going on.

The selection of tabs isn’t terrible either as you even can customise the mods downloaded from the Steam workshop. The goal is to build a civilization that can fulfil each of the primary roles in the game while keeping a study influx of gold, food and resources to expand your kingdom and gain more workers.Īlthough Stonehearth has a very plain mainmenu it cannot be called lacking, the art presented on the page presents the handcrafted feeling of the game as it is of an indie developer.
